Sanders Morris Harris Group Inc., the Houston-based financial services holding company, announced that Stephen R. Cordill has joined as president of its Asset and Wealth Management Division.

Cordill most recently ran the Oppenheimer office in Houston, which he built to over $25 million of primarily fee-based revenue. That office also included institutional, research and investment banking personnel. Previously, he started the Financial Planning Department at Touche Ross, headed Financial Services at Prudential Securities, and ran the Special Products Group and Institutional Distribution for Alliance Capital before joining Oppenheimer, first in New York and — ten years ago — in Houston. He is a graduate of the Indiana University Business School, has a J.D. from Notre Dame, a Masters of Law in Taxation from DePaul and a C.P.A.

“We believe that linking our asset and wealth management businesses, putting them collectively under a person with Steve’s background and skills, should help to enhance our profitability, as well as our growth,” said George L. Ball, Chairman of Sanders Morris Harris Group. “His addition demonstrates the firm’s deep commitment to furthering Sanders Morris Harris Group’s position in assisting wealthy investors.”

“I am excited about the opportunity to join Sanders Morris Harris,” said Cordill. “The firm’s investment expertise, regional presence and sophisticated platforms were keys in my decision to join. I hope to help burnish its stature as a wealth partner with its clients.”
