John Campbell, Senior Vice President of State Street Corporation will take over as Chairman of Scottish Financial Enterprise (SFE) from Mike Ross who steps down from the role after five years, and from the SFE board, on 23 January 2004.

Campbell has served as a director of SFE since October 2001 and is a member of State Street’s local operating board in the UK. State Street recently increased its Edinburgh team to 900 following the acquisition in January last year of Deutsche Bank’s Global Security Services business which included the WM Company in Edinburgh.

Commenting on his appointment Campbell said: “I am honoured to take on this role at a time of tremendous opportunity for Scotland’s financial services sector. Financial services are a major contributor to the Scottish economy and Scottish Financial Enterprise has an important job to do on behalf of its members to promote the sector’s significance and secure the best environment for its continuing growth in Scotland. I look forward to working with my fellow colleagues on the board to achieve these aims.”

“Scottish Financial Enterprise has a significant role to play in promoting the financial services sector based in Scotland,” commented retiring Chairman Mike Ross. “In a rapidly changing environment, I’m delighted that SFE has a Chairman of John’s calibre and experience to lead the Board through the next phase of its work.”

Campbell began his career as a commissioned officer in the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards before training as a fund manager with Ivory and Sime plc. He subsequently held senior positions with Alliance Capital, Cursitor Management and Framlington plc, and joined State Street in 2000. Campbell is a member of the Scottish Executive’s Financial Services Strategy Group and a trustee of the Institute of Business Ethics.
