State Street has named Peter Baker to head its London-based pension and collective investment servicing business. He will report to Jeff Conway, head of State Street’s investor services business in United Kingdom, northern Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Baker will manage all aspects of State Street’s London-based services for collective schemes and pension funds including risk and compliance, trustee services, fund administration and accounting. As part of this role he will manage the integration and implementation of major contracts including the mandate from Investec Asset Management to provide investment operations services for $34 billion in assets. Baker will also oversee senior level relationships with clients and prospects to ensure that State Street continues to deliver excellence to its key constituents.

“Having worked with Peter in Australia, I have first hand knowledge of his deep understanding of the investment servicing business and his talent for client relationship management,” says Jeff Conway. “He will play a key role on our London team as we continue to forge multi-product and multi-geographic relationships with our clients.”

In the UK, State Street claims a 30 per cent market share in servicing collective investments and an 11 percent market share in servicing pensions. Most recently State Street was appointed to provide global custody, fund accounting, foreign exchange and cash management services for the Weir Group Pension Scheme’s 400 million fund.

Prior to this appointment, Baker was head of State Street’s investment servicing business in Australia for three years. He joined State Street in 1988 and worked in the UK from 1989 to 1997.
