Standard Chartered has appointed Diana Layfield as regional CEO for Africa, with effect from June 22. Layfield succeeds Mike Hart, who becomes vice chairman for the bank’s operations in Africa.

Layfield will be responsible for driving the bank’s business and brand across Africa. Currently group head of strategy and corporate development, she previously has held senior management roles in the bank as COO for wholesale banking and as group head for global corporates.

Hart has led Standard Chartered’s franchise in Africa since 2006, and has held numerous senior positions in the bank, including group head of audit and group head of operations. He will continue to work very closely with the bank’s franchise in Africa in his new non-executive role.

Diana and Mikes appointments will ensure Standard Chartered continues to be Africas leading international bank, strengthening further our 150 year old commitment to the continent, says V. Shankar, CEO for Europe, Middle East, Africa and Americas at Standard Chartered. This is a hugely exciting time for our fast growing business in Africa. Diana and Mike will ensure we are well placed to take advantage of the many opportunities we see, including from deepening economic and trade relationships with Asia.
