Standard Chartered has tapped HSBC’s direct custody expert to lead its custody and clearing product management team in Singapore.

Ryan Cuthbertson joins Standard Chartered after serving almost six years in the Asia-Pacific region for HSBC Securities Services. He was most recently head of product, direct custody and clearing, for HSBC in Hong Kong.

As head of product management for custody and clearing within Standard Chartered securities services unit, Cuthbertson will lead the development of new products and services for its global clients.

“The recruitment of Ryan shows our continued commitment to building a world-class team to deliver market-leading products and services to our clients,” said Margaret Harwood-Jones, global head, securities services, transaction banking, Standard Chartered.

His appointment is the latest for Standard Chartered which has invested heavily in the securities services business for the region. In March, it hired James O’Sullivan from BNP Paribas Securities Services as head of securities services for Hong Kong.

Last year Standard Chartered reorganised its securities services unit to bring it under the transaction banking umbrella, bringing together its sales, product, service, technology and operations teams within a single global business line.
