Standard Chartered has hired Joost Lobler as head of sales, Asset Managers, Transaction Banking North East Asia and Greater China, leading a team of four sales staff in Hong Kong.

In this role, Lobler, who joined the bank in December, is responsible for the sales of the bank’s custody, securities services, cash management and Stock Connect services to both traditional and alternative fund managers in the region. The hire is a result of Standard Chartered trying to grow its securities services and transaction banking in Asia.

Lobler will report to Barnaby Nelson, managing director and head of investors and intermediaries for Transaction Banking, North East Asia and Greater China.

Before coming to Standard Chartered, Lobler served as head of securities services at Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank (SMTB) in Hong Kong. He built up SMTB’s Hong Kong securities services department, but the bank recently decided to transfer these functions to Tokyo,

Prior to SMTB, Lobler worked in London as head of sales Europe & Asia for Butterfield Fulcrum (now Mitsubishi UFJ), and before that he served as chief commercial officer at Fortis Bank’s fund services division.
