Hedge fund investor George Soros has hired former Goldman, Sachs & Co. executive Mark Schwartz, 48, to become president and chief executive officer at Soros Fund Management, effective January 1, 2003.

Schwartz will replace William Stack, 55, who will leave Soros at the year’s end. Soros said he will remain active as Chairman of the firm, according to Dow Jones.
