Societe Generale Corporate & Investment Banking has added a senior banker to its Financial Institutions Group covering the Americas region as the firm continues to increase its presence in this sector.
The firm hired Peter Abeles as a Managing Director responsible for client coverage of large and regional banks as well as the specialty finance sector, including certain broker-dealers. Abeles’s addition complements the group’s hiring of Alfred Capra earlier this year as a Managing Director responsible for covering clients in the American insurance sector.
Abeles’s career in financial services spans from 1976 and has been focused almost entirely on the credit and investment banking relationship businesses. He joins the firm from Standard & Poor’s where he was a relationship manager in their Financial Services Group covering primarily large domestic US banks and broker-dealers. Prior to this, Abeles was a Managing Director with ContiFinancial Services Corporation, the former New York merchant bank and early innovator in the asset-backed securities arena. Prior to ContiFinancial, Abeles worked for Standard & Poor’s during an initial term helping to start-up their Asset-Backed Group.
Abeles will be based in New York and reports to the Head of the Financial Institutions Group for the Americas, Thomas Mann.
“Peter joins us with valuable, well-earned relationships in the banking and brokerage industry,” says Mann. “These relationships and his deep industry knowledge combined with our firm’s expertise in derivatives products and structured finance are a potent mix that will help to ensure we continue to expand our business, providing clients with financial solutions tailored for their often complex needs.”
