SIX Digital Exchange appoints former R3 Labs chief to head business

Experienced leader in enterprise blockchain and institutional capital markets joins SIX’s digital trading venue as it gears up for launch.

The SIX Digital Exchange (SDX) has appointed new technologies pioneer, Tim Grant, as the group readies to launch its trading, settlement, and custody infrastructure for digital assets.

Grant is known for his role as CEO of the R3 Lab and Research Centre, and setting up DrumG Technologies, which earnt buy-in from Consensys in 2018.

Previously, Grant was also managing director at UBS O’Connor and UBS Investment Bank.

His role of head of business will see him lean on his 20 years of technology expertise across institutional capital markets and enterprise blockchain businesses to grow the platform for financial institutions across global capital markets.

“I am very excited to join the leadership team at SDX as they aim to launch the world’s first end-to-end digital exchange,” said Grant. The team has already made huge progress and I’m looking forward to contributing my experience and working with our institutional clients around the world to continue the growth and expansion of the next generation of financial market infrastructure.”

SIX confirmed plans to launch SDX in July 2018 to provide institutional clients with trading, settlement and custody of cryptocurrencies and recently partnered with Omniex as it readies for launch.

Omniex, led by former senior vice president at State Street and founder of the banks emerging technologies centre, Hu Liang, will provide the front-end platform.

SDX said its team of over 100 professionals is working with banks and trusted partners to bring to market the first products and services that deliver business value to institutional clients.

The exchange added that Grant will drive its vision to create a whole ecosystem that is expected to transform the financial services industry.
