Temasek, the investment company owned by the Singapore government, has made a “significant equity investment” in global financial information services company Markit.

Temasek is now believed to hold a bigger stake than any other bank entity shareholder. Markit's ownership is split among private equity investors, employees and buy- and sell-side financial institutions.

Markit would not comment on the size of the investment.

"Temasek's investment in Markit is a significant milestone in our company's ten-year history, underscoring our success as a global financial information and services provider," says Lance Uggla, CEO of Markit. "Temasek is an expert investor in entrepreneurial growth companies with a track record in increasing shareholder value. The strength of their position and profile in Asia, an area where we see significant potential and opportunity, will help fuel our growth in the region. We look forward to their participation in our company's strategy."
