SGX has appointed Ong Chong Jin, 43, as senior vice president and head of Catalist with effect from 8 July 2008.
Ong will report to Lawrence Wong, executive vice president and head of Listings.
Ong will be responsible for growing and developing Catalist. He will lead the Catalist business team to build a community of Sponsors, including working closely with Sponsors to attract quality IPOs and promote Catalist companies compliance with SGX rules.
He is also tasked with raising the profile of Catalist companies and working with market participants to deepen the investor base. Together with Catalist Regulation, he will review and recommend listing rule enhancements to foster a vibrant marketplace.
“We are very happy to have Chong Jin in the listing team. He comes with substantial years of regional experience in investment banking. He will focus his efforts on developing Catalist as the choice listing venue for international fast growing companies,” says Wong.
Ong will join SGX from CLSA Merchant Bankers where he was managing director and head of Investment Banking for Singapore and Malaysia. He was responsible for growing the firms investment banking franchise in the two countries.
Prior to CLSA Merchant Bankers, he held senior positions in Cazenove & Co. in Singapore and Merrill Lynch in Hong Kong. Ong started his banking career with Citibank N.A.
Ong holds a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University, USA, and also a Bachelors degree in Business Administration (BBA) from the National University of Singapore. He is also a certified chartered financial analyst.
