The UK’s Serious Fraud Office (SFO) has launched a new helpline designed specifically for those looking to report fraud in the City of London.
Open between 09:00 and 17:00 GMT every day – and with an answer phone recording calls at other times – the dedicated 020 7239 7388 number is part of the organisation’s attempts get individuals more involved in the process of indentifying fraud problems.
“Because of the recession it is possible that more and more instances of fraud will emerge and employees, directors, investors, indeed, the companies themselves may become victims,” says Richard Alderman, the SFO’s director.
The SFO has jurisdiction in serious or complex fraud cases in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
At the start of this month, an investigation into the 80 million ($119 million) Practical Property Portfolio companies of Gateshead led to the successful prosecution of five people at Newcastle crown court.
