Two proposals aimed at protecting hedge fund investors are currently being looked at by securities regulators. The rules would mean that the amount that investors would have to invest in to a fund would be increased to USD2.5 million, up from the previous USD1 million threshold.

It would also be illegal for hedge fund advisors to defraud, deceive or mislead investors, regardless of whether they are registered under the Advisers Act.
