Reuters has reported that the head of the US Securities and Exchange Commission is considering reopening an insider trading probe involving hedge fund Pequot Capital and current chief executive of Morgan Stanley, John Mack, after two Republican senators drew his attention to it.

The senators have accused the SEC of mishandling the 2005 dismissal of an agency investigator, who claims to have been fired after the Pequot probe got too close to Mack.
