Scotiabank bank announced its appointment of 25-year company veteran Brian Porter as chief risk officer. Porter will relinquish his position as deputy chairman of Scotia Capital to take the new position.

Rick Waugh, Scotiabank President and CEO, predicts the new chief risk officer will “play a critical role in leading the bank’s global risk management.”

Porter will replace Warren Walker, the Canadian bank’s current executive vice president of global risk management. Walker will step down from his position on November 1, 2005, ending two decades with Scotiabank.
