Standard & Poor’s has launched the S&P MLP Index, an index designed to serve the investment community’s need for a tradable benchmark representing the fast growing, $200 billion Master Limited Partnership market.
The index consists of leading, liquid Master Limited Partnerships trading on a major U.S. exchange.
Master Limited Partnerships (“MLPs”) are limited partnerships that are publicly traded on a securities exchange, combining the tradability of common stocks with the tax treatment of partnerships.
The S&P MLP Index is designed to provide exposure to leading partnerships that trade on major U.S. exchanges. The index includes both master limited partnerships and publicly traded limited liability companies (LLCs), which have a similar legal structure to MLPs and share the same tax benefits.
