TowerGroup today announced that Rob Hegarty, former director of the company’s Investment Management practice, has been promoted to vice president of the overall Securities & Investments group. His new role gives him oversight of the company’s three Securities & Investment research practices: Investment Management; Retail Brokerage & Investing; and Securities & Capital Markets.

Larry Tabb, who previously served as vice president of Securities & Investments, has been appointed senior strategy advisor for TowerGroup as a whole. In this new role, he will drive a range of strategic initiatives to expand the company’s capabilities, deepen its client relationships and build new business opportunities. “Both Rob and Larry have important new roles to play within our organization,” said Mark Sievewright, TowerGroup president and CEO. “Not only does Rob have superb insights and experience across the entire securities and investments landscape, he is also an extremely strong leader who is recognized by the industry and valued by our clients. His deep knowledge of the buy-side, as well as his direct experience managing technology in capital markets and brokerage, will be of significant benefit to our clients.”

Commenting on Tabb’s new appointment, Sievewright said, “Larry has been absolutely instrumental in building the Securities & Investments practice into the powerhouse it is today. He is extremely well-known and respected across the industry, and will be a tremendous asset to us in continuing to grow the capabilities, business and stature of the company.”

Hegarty has more than 15 years of experience in the financial services technology industry. Before joining TowerGroup, he served as vice president of trading systems at Putnam Investments, vice president of technology for Fidelity Investments’ Capital Markets division, and a division vice president at Drexel Burnham Lambert in New York.

Hegarty has served on many industry boards, including the Advisory Board of Institutional Investor’s U.S. Institute and the Financial Information Exchange (FIX) Executive Committee.
