Reuters appointed Alexander Hungate as its managing director of Reuters Asia in Hong Kong.

Effective January 2006, Hungate will lead the regional team responsible for Reuters business activities in Asia, and will manage annual revenues of about 3,600 staff across more than 19 countries in the Asian region.

His most recent role was as chief marketing officer for the Reuters Group. Previous to that Hungate was president of Focus Group Accounts, where he was responsible for sales. He was co-chief executive officer of Reuters America with joint responsibility for Reuters business in the Americas. He joined the company in 1993 and worked at Reuters New Media in New York in the early days of the World Wide Web.

Before joining Reuters two decades ago, Hungate worked on strategy projects at Booz Allen & Hamilton in Europe, Asia and the United States, advising clients in the media and high technology industries.

“Having just completed plans for accelerated growth in China and India, Alex is now well placed to drive the implementation of these plans and can quickly assume his broader responsibilities across Asia,” said Tom Glocer, chief executive officer of Reuters Group.

Hungate graduated as a Baker Scholar from Harvard Business School’s MBA program. He also holds a Masters Degree in Engineering, Economics & Management from Oxford University.
