Record-Breaking Single Day Volume, Reports CBOE

The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) announced that reported trading volume on Friday April 21st, was more than 4.77 million contracts, the third highest trading day ever at CBOE. Seven of CBOEs top ten busiest volume days occurred in 2006.

The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) announced that reported trading volume on Friday April 21st, was more than 4.77 million contracts, the third highest trading day ever at CBOE. Seven of CBOEs top-ten busiest volume days occurred in 2006. The top two volume days were March 16th with 5,639,339 contracts trading and January 20th, when 5,249,953 contracts traded.

Trading volume for the week totaled more than 17.89 million option contracts, and open interest stood at 194.3 million contracts at the start of trading this morning.

Trading volume at CBOE in 2005 was a record-setting 468.2 million contracts, with average daily volume of 1.86 million contracts — 30% higher than 2004. Through the first three months of 2006, year-to-date average daily volume at CBOE stood at 2.5 million contracts, 46% ahead of 2005s pace.
