RBS International has promoted one of its own to lead its depositary services business in Luxembourg.

Spencer Carne assumes the role at RBS after 15 years with the organisation.

Carne joined in Jersey as a graduate in 2005, working his way up through the business before moving into the Luxembourg office as head of operations in 2018.

He will be charged with growing the depositary arm in the region, with an increased emphasis on customer centricity, and talent acquisition. RBS said Carne’s breadth of experience within RBS International encompassing marketing, market analysis, and operational management provides him with the insight and knowledge of both the business and the industry to lead the office into 2021 and the future.

The move comes as the RBS’ depositary business moves forward under the guidance of securities services veteran Mark Crathern, who joined at the end of last year.

The business line appears to have become a priority for the organisation moving forward as Crathern looks to broaden RBS’ offering to the market through a data-driven business providing more insight to clients.

“We are at a critical point with the evolution and growth of our business in Luxembourg and I am delighted to have someone with Spencer’s leadership skills at the helm to deliver our transformational investment programme.”
