ABN AMRO confirmed Friday that it had received a letter from Royal Bank of Scotland, Banco Santander and Fortis in which they invited the Dutch bank, which is in exclusive merger discussions with Barclays Bank, to start exploratory talks.
In a statement, ABN Amro said “the Managing Board and Supervisory Board of ABN AMRO will consider the letter carefully in line with their responsibilities.
