Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) has expanded its Global Private Banking division in the United States with the opening of a representative office based in San Francisco, California. The office, lead by Pamela Woodburn, managing director, will be primarily responsible for business development efforts across California.

“California is an attractive market,” said Michael Lagopoulos, president & CEO, RBC Global Private Banking. “Our strength is in serving the international trust and wealth management needs of high net worth individuals and estates, drawing on the strength of our global capabilities. Our private banking services are a good fit for the diverse mix of individuals and families from all over the world who live and conduct business in California.”

RBC Dain Rauscher and RBC Capital Markets also have offices in California. RBC has been growing its presence in the United States since 2001 through a number of acquisitions and office expansions. The Global Private Banking division has U.S.-based offices in Miami and New York City.

Woodburn, a 17-year industry veteran, joined Royal Bank of Canada in 1993. Her experience has included brokerage, insurance, financial counseling and domestic estate planning in Canada. For the past number of years, she has worked solely in the area of global solutions with an emphasis on international trust and estate planning.

Woodburn will be responsible for the overall growth and management of the firm’s private banking business development activities in California. Woodburn is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, the International Tax Planning Association, Canadian Association of Financial Planners, the San Francisco Estate Planning Council and a Board Member of the Financial Women’s Association of San Francisco.
