RBC Capital Markets, the corporate and investment banking arm of Royal Bank of Canada, has opened a representative office in Lugano, Switzerland. RBC already has offices in Lausanne and Geneva.

On 2 September 2008, RBC Capital Markets had hired 11 bankers from Bear Stearns to form a new US institutional equity sales and trading team to be based in London and Switzerland. The new representative office in Lugano, headed by Roberto Bottani, Managing Director, will focus on selling RBC Capital Markets’ cash equity products to Swiss and Italian clients.

RBC has been operating in Switzerland since 1982, with offices in Lausanne and Geneva dedicated to capital markets and wealth management.
