London-based fund management consultancy Kinetic Partners – formed in March 2005 by David Butler, Julian Korek, Raymond O’Neill and Chiltern, a tax consultancy – has hired a number of new consultants.It now has a total headcount of over 60 people in four office locations
Ian Davies has joined Kinetic Partners as a Member to head up operational risk consulting. He was most recently employed by Man Investments (Man Group) as Head of Divisional Risk as well as at Flemings as Associate Director, Group Risk Monitoring. He specialises in the design, implementation and operation of risk management frameworks integrating operational, market and credit risks, compliant with Basel II standards. He is also an experienced consultant to the financial services sector and worked with clients such as NatWest, Sanwa International, NM Rothschild, Sun Alliance, Commercial Union and Sedgwicks while at Coopers & Lybrand. He started his career in the City, developing systems to capture financial statistics at The Bank of England.
Bill Cleghorn is a chartered accountant and a licensed insolvency practitioner. He takes up the position of Member. Prior to joining Kinetic Partners, Cleghorn was a partner at RSM Robson Rhodes. He specialises in corporate recovery and financial crime investigations, and has taken appointments under the Insolvency Act 1986, in the corporate recovery and corporate investigations field. This involved asset tracing and recovery in the UK and overseas, investigating money laundering, terrorist finance, corruption and fraud, including assignments both in the Assets Recovery Agency and the Scottish Civil Recovery Unit. Additionally, he has given expert evidence in both civil and criminal court matters in the UK and abroad. Cleghorn heads up the financial crime and corporate investigations teams.
Claire Mascarenhas who joins as a Member, is part of the tax team. She joins from KPMG’s Hong Kong office. While in Hong Kong, she specialised in providing tax advisory services to various private equity and hedge funds, which were investing into the rapidly growing Chinese mainland market. Prior to working in Hong Kong, she worked for RSM Robson Rhodes’ London office, where she provided tax planning for start-up hedge funds as well as completing remuneration planning assignments for investment management clients.
Emma Porter has been appointed as a Consultant, within the financial crime and corporate investigations teams. Porter designed a risk-based system used by police and customs in an offshore jurisdiction to prioritise suspicious activity reports. Her scoring system is able to examine a range of suspicious transactions received, covering both individuals and corporate bodies. Previously a senior manager at RSM Robson Rhodes, Forensic Services and Corporate Investigations, Porter was involved in a range of forensic work spanning investigations into the auditors of a major life insurance company; into charities where management controls were found to be lacking; involving fraudulent diversion of public funds and a number of money laundering investigations, and civil recovery assignments both for the Assets Recovery Agency and the Scottish Civil Recovery Unit.
Raphal Carr joins as a Consultant in internal audit services. Fluent in both Spanish and French, Raphal earned a degree from the ESSEC Graduate School of Management. He previously worked as an internal auditor with a leading global custodian bank, BNP Paribas Securities Services. His main areas of expertise are clearing, settlement and custody services and fund related products.
Barry Rome joins as a Consultant in internal audit services. He comes from Ernst & Young and has been working predominantly in the alternative investment arena. He previously worked as a consultant in new venture set up, and in process improvement. Rome’s main areas of expertise are hedge fund operational management, portfolio management and risk analysis.
