The Qatar Exchange is hoping the local regulator Qatar Financial Markets Authority will approve securities lending regulation in the next month, say industry sources.

The exchange believes the signing of the regulation would be a significant step forward in the creation on a securities lending market, which would enhance liquidity. An active market for securities lending is one of the six criteria required by MSCI to gain Emerging Market rather than Frontier Market status.
