If you thought September 11 and the subsequent assault on terrorist networks in Afghanistan had made multi-culturalism unfashionable, think again. Merrill Lynch today announced the formation of a new business unit, Multicultural and Diversified Business Development. Headed by Subha Barry and Jyoti Chopra, the new unit will aim to sell private client wealth management services to the “Asian Indian” and other “diverse communities” in the United States through national affinity groups, sponsorships and community outreach programs, and new product packaging and sales literature. Initial plans include corporate support of a major contemporary Indian art show opening in spring 2002 at the Zimmerli Art Museum in New Jersey.
