PLUS Markets announces strong trading activity in February. Year on year, February trades were up by 100% at 708,943 representing 5.196 billion shares, an increase of 217% over the same period in 2008 and a new record high for PLUS.

The new UK stock exchange continues to make inroads and take market share as its trading activity exceeds other growth markets. February saw PLUS register an average daily trading volume in excess of 35,000 making it the most active platform in this sector.

In the small and mid-caps trading on its platform including FTSE SmallCap, FTSE Fledgling, dual-trading AIM stocks and all PLUS-quoted securities, PLUS took 33.65% market share by volume of shares traded. During February, PLUS captured 22.41% by trade value in the Royal Bank of Scotland stock.

Despite difficult market conditions, PLUS is gaining traction, says Cyril Theret, business development director. Substantial transaction volume is routinely coming to PLUS attracted by its liquidity offering and low cost execution model. With the dark pool facility due on stream shortly we expect to build still further on this momentum.
