Piper Jaffray Companies announced that its UK subsidiary, Piper Jaffray Ltd., commenced trading as a member firm of the London Stock Exchange (LSE). Piper Jaffray Ltd. will act in a principal and agency capacity and as a market maker in UK domestic securities. The firm launched this effort yesterday with market making in 27 London Stock Exchange Full and AIM-listed companies.

“We are pleased to have commenced trading as a member firm on the London Stock Exchange,” said David Wilson, chief executive officer of Piper Jaffray Ltd. “This is significant in that it clearly demonstrates the commitment of Piper Jaffray to the European life sciences sector, supplementing our existing specialist sector capabilities in the United States. We believe that we are the leading investment bank with a genuine established franchise focused on the small/mid-cap healthcare sector on both sides of the Atlantic.”

Separately, Piper Jaffray Ltd. has been appointed as retained financial adviser and/or broker to its tenth London Stock Exchange listed company. Following this appointment, Piper Jaffray Ltd. now acts as the retained financial adviser and/or broker to approximately 25 percent of the companies comprising the FTSE techMARK Mediscience Index, the key index for LSE-listed emerging healthcare companies.
