The Bank of New York Company, Inc., announced today that Paul Myners, recently retired chairman of Gartmore Investment Management of London, England, has been elected to the Boards of Directors of The Bank of New York Company, Inc., and its principal subsidiary, The Bank of New York, effective March 2002.

Including his tenure as chairman of Gartmore Investment Management, Mr. Myners has spent 32 years in various management positions including executive director of N. M. Rothchild & Sons Ltd and NatWest Wealth Management. He is a graduate of the University of London.

Recently, he completed a review of the fund management industry for the British Government reporting directly to the Chancellor of the Exchequer. Mr. Myners has held various key corporate positions. He is a director of mmO2 and chairman of Guardian Media Group Plc. Previous directorships include Coutts & Co., Orange plc and PowerGen Plc. He is currently chairman of the Lloyd’s of London Investment Committee.
