The value of long and medium term Japanese bonds purchased by overseas investors is at its highest net level since January 2005, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Finance in Tokyo.
The net cumulative total of Yen 1.709 trillion in the week ending 27 May shows interest in Japanese bonds is continuing to increase.
If stocks and short term bonds are added to the total, overseas investors purchased Yen 1.9196 trillion of Japanese securities on a net basis, which is also a record high.
On the other hand, they turned out to be the sellers of Japanese stocks in the amount of Yen 221.7 billion following the previous week (the week ended 20 May, which recorded net selling of Yen 483.5 billion).
This is the first time since April 2005 that overseas investors have been net sellers of Japanese equities for two straight weeks.
