With respect to investment trend by investor category, the overseas investors purchased more than JPY 10 trillion on a net basis, according to recent statistics released by the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Individual investors sold JPY 4 trillion, brokerage houses sold JPY 1 trillion, and institutional investors sold JPY 4 trillion.
The result shows that overseas investors were major players in purchasing Japanese equities, contributing to pushing up Nikkei 225 Stock Price Index more than 40 % for 2005.
Overall, the total trading volume for FY 2005 reached to JPY 448 trillion, which was an increase of 1.5 times over the figures of FY 2004. As for the breakdown, overseas investors comes in first with the figures of JPY 143 trillion sales/JPY 153 trillion purchases, individual investors in second with JPY 127 trillion sales/JPY 123 trillion purchases, and brokerage houses in third with JPY 119 trillion sales/JPY117 trillion purchases.
Overseas investors also topped 2004 with the figures of JPY 98 trillion sales/JPY 106 trillion purchases, brokerage houses came in next with JPY 88 trillion sales/JPY 90 trillion purchase, and individual investors follows with JPY 69 trillion sales/JPY 66 trillion purchase, respectively.
