One in ten jobs in the US IT industry are at risk of being exported to low-cost emerging markets such as India or Russia by the end of 2004, according to computer consultancy Gartner Inc. Its report, entitled U.S. Offshore Outsourcing: Structural Changes, Big Impact, suggests that 500,000 of 10.3 million American technology jobs could move this year and next, putting at risk another one in twenty jobs in technology-dependent sectors such as banking, health care and insurance.
