Although total cleared volume on OCC declined 11% in May 2011 from the same month last year, total options, futures and securities lending volume is still on track for a record year, the derivatives clearing organization says.
OCC’s year-to-date average daily volume of 18,072,968 is an increase of 8% compared to the same point in 2010, and year-to-date total volume is up 9% with 1,861,515,709 contracts.
Exchange-listed options trading volume declined 11% in May from the same month last year. Equity options volume declined 9% in the same time frame. Year-to-date average daily volume for exchange-listed options was up 8% compared to the same period last year.
Futures cleared by OCC rose 30% last month from May 2010. Index and other futures volume was up 51%, while equity futures volume declined 50%. OCC’s year-to-date total futures volume is up 49% in 2011.
OCC’s stock loan program, including OTC and AQS, saw a 31% increase in new loan activity over May 2010. Year-to-date securities lending activity is up 47% from 2010, with an average daily notional value this year of $12,980,636,905.
