NSD to Settle RTS Money FX Transactions

Russias National Settlement Depository (NSD) will from February 13 offer settlements of transactions made through the FX trading system RTS Money as part of the ongoing integration of Russian exchanges MICEX and RTS.

The service will be offered to accounts opened with NSD by RTS Money participants and their clients.

RTS Money FX execution service integrated into the platforms of Russian derivatives exchange FORTS and cash equity market RTS Standard.

Separately, NSD also released its operating results for 2011. Securities turnover at the depository was RUB95.9 trillion, a rise of 41.5% over turnover in 2010. Cash account turnover was RUB239.6 trillion, a rise of 37.4% over the previous year.

“In general we are happy with the results of our operations, as 2011 was the first year of NSD’s full functioning after integration of NDC and MICEX SH, says Eddie Astanin, chairman of the executive board for NSD.

Russian exchanges MICEX and RTS are merging, along with their respective depositories, NSD and MICEX Settlement House.

Cash settlements on the stock exchange market totaled RUB81.33 trillion last year, a rise of 31% over 2010. On the government securities market, the total was RUB29.9 trillion, a rise of 49.7%. On the derivatives market, cash settlement totaled RUB1.64 trillion, a decrease of 26%.

The total number of securities on deposit with NSD grew by 27.1% from RUB2.02 trillion at the end of 2010 to RUB2.56 trillion at the end of 2011. The number of depository accounts rose 8.6% to 2,065.
