Russias National Settlement Depository (NSD) has successfully completed a stress test of its depository information system. The tests were conducted to gauge whether the system could handle expected load increases as a result of gaining CSD status and integrating the assets and services of the Depository Clearing Company, which NSD acquired earlier this year.

Nominee holder accounts at the CSD are to be opened at securities holders registers, which will result in major transfers of assets to NSDs account. That will increase the number of transactions at NSD significantly, the depository says.

The stress test found that NSDs system can carry a load 3-10 times more than current levels at maximum use by customers and counterparties. The variance depends on the type of transactions involved.

NSD conducted the test on a secure system that mirrors the depositorys live system. On the basis of the test results, NSD says it has developed a plan to further improve the reliability and efficiency of its systems. Another test is planned for when those updates are complete.
