Norway has ended the short selling ban on financial stocks. The Kredittilsynet, Norways Financial Services Authority, has issued a statement declaring that the market is now of such a nature that trading short in the shares and primary capital certificates in question is no longer considered on a general basis to contravene the Securities Trading Act. The regulator banned short selling on financial stock in October 2008.
Last week, Belgium regulator CBFA stated that it would extend the short selling ban on financial stocks indefinitely. This is the fourth time that the CBFA has extended the ban since its introduction in September 2008. The only exemption is to ING.
Austria has also recently extended the ban on financial stock listed on the Vienna stock exchange.
