Northern Trust Global Investments (NTGI) has announced it will focus on Asia as one of the key regions for securities lending business growth.

NTGI, which offers global securities lending service through its offices in London, Hong Kong, Chicago and Toronto, is looking to further develop its operations in Asia and this has begun with the appointment of Sunil Daswani, who is re-locating from London, to lead the Hong Kong team.

Mr. Daswani, who joined NTGI in London in 2002, becomes Regional Manager for Securities Lending in Asia. The appointment is part of the development of NTGI’s broader Asia strategy which includes initiatives for NTGI’s Commission Recapture, Transition Management, Quantitative Management, Manager of Managers and Active Equity and Fixed Income Management businesses. Mr Daswani reports to Andy Clayton, NTGI’s Head of International Securities Lending based in London. In addition, Yumi Farquhar, who has been at NTGI for over four years, becomes Head of Securities Lending Trading, Asia. She reports to Andy Clayton and to Sunil Daswani.

Following Mr. Daswani’s move, Ed Oliver who has been with NTGI since 1994, and who, latterly, worked alongside Mr. Daswani, has been promoted to Senior Product Manager, Securities Lending, in London. In a further move, NTGI has appointed Kate Lander as Product Manager, Securities Lending in London. Ms. Lander comes to NTGI from 7City Learning Limited where she was Director of CFA Programs. Both Mr. Oliver and Ms. Lander report to Richard Bartholomew, Head of Product Management in London.

Andy Clayton said, “We are focusing increased resource on the Asian region as we expect the current trend in heightened securities lending business opportunities to continue. The regulatory environment in Asia is continually creating new challenges for institutional investors and NTGI is always looking to ensure that our clients can capitalize on opportunities to increase revenue, with minimal risk. We are already responding to the need for product development initiatives in markets such as Korea, China and Taiwan and anticipate other markets in the region to follow.
