Northern Trust has hired Arti Sharma as head of Northern Trust, Canada, where she started on Monday, overseeing all of the firm’s Canadian operations.

Sharma is based in Toronto and reports to David W. Fox, head of Americas for Corporate & Institutional Services. Sharma comes to Northern Trust from Mercer, where she was a principal and head of business development for Mercer Sentinel services. In that role, Sharma was responsible for the development of Mercer’s custody practice.

Before Mercer, Sharma served as a senior vice president at Thomas Murray North America, where she was the company’s first regional head for North America. Prior to that role, Sharma held executive management and sales positions at CIBC Mellon.

“We’ve experienced significant growth and success in Canada, and under Arti Sharma’s leadership, we will continue to build on that momentum,” says Northern Trust chairman and chief executive officer Frederick H. Waddell. “Arti has an accomplished history of business growth and building strong client relationships, and we are thrilled to have her join Northern Trust.”
