Northern Trust, the personal trust company and leading provider of management services, has named David Swets to the new position of Managing Director of the West Michigan Office. Swets is responsible for ensuring the success and growth of the local office and team. He reports to Buell Cole, the president and CEO of Northern Trust, Michigan.

“We’re extremely pleased that Dave is joining our team in Western Michigan,” says Cole. “Over the past five years, he has earned a well-deserved reputation as a leader in his ability to identify, orchestrate and implement Northern Trust’s full range of fiduciary, investment and banking solutions to some of our largest and highly complex family relationships.”

Douglas Klein, the president of West Michigan, continues in his role as investment advisor and a senior management contact for many of the most significant client relationships. Klein is responsible for enhancing and expanding the company’s reputation in Western Michigan and among centers of influence. James McKay continues in his leadership role as Chairman of the West Michigan Advisory Board.

A native of Grand Rapids, Dave Swets joins the Grand Rapids office of Northern Trust from the company’s headquarters in Chicago, where as Senior Trust Administrator for the past five years, he was responsible for advising and managing the wealth of many area families. Prior to joining Northern Trust in 2001, Swets worked for Fifth Third Bank (Old Kent) in Grand Rapids in trust administration and then as manager of its Lake Shore offices.

Swets earned a B.A. from Calvin College in Grand Rapids and a J.D. from Thomas J. Cooley Law School. He also is a Cannon Trust School Graduate of 1996 from the University of North Carolina, and a CTFA and a CISP. With three trust and private banking financial centers in Michigan, the West Michigan office of Northern Trust is located at 161 Ottawa Avenue NW in downtown Grand Rapids.
