Northern Trust has appointed Sue Baines as head of Global Fund Services (GFS) sales for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), and John Grundy as GFS hedge funds sales manager.

“In response to the shift towards defined contribution and alternative investment products, Northern Trust continues to expand its interests to increasingly meet the fund services, custody and banking needs of investment managers. These appointments will help us to pursue opportunities with investment managers offering multiple products, and with multi-jurisdictional administration requirements, as we continue to expand our business across EMEA,” says Wilson Leech, worldwide head of GFS at Northern Trust.

In her new role, Sue Baines will lead a team of sales managers responsible for developing new business opportunities with investment managers across all asset classes, from traditional funds to alternative asset funds including hedge funds, private equity and property and infrastructure, across EMEA. Baines continues to report to Anne-Lise Winge, head of asset servicing sales for EMEA and Asia-Pacific at Northern Trust.

Baines joined Northern Trust in 2005 as a business development manager focusing on GFS sales. During her three years in this role, she was responsible for marketing Northern Trust’s offshore custody and fund administration capabilities to investment managers in the UK and continental Europe.

John Grundy comes to Northern Trust with responsibility for marketing to traditional and hedge fund managers, and reports to Baines. He joins Rob Messenger and Kate Stallard who also report to Baines, and who are responsible for traditional GFS business development, and private equity, property and infrastructure fund administration business development, respectively.

Prior to joining Northern Trust, Grundy spent eight years at Thomson Financial where he was a senior sales executive focusing on the investment management and hedge fund community. During his 14 years in the industry he also worked at Financial Times Information and CCN Ltd where he was involved in sales and support for a suite of research and data services to the investment management sector.

“Sue has a proven record of generating and managing new business opportunities and we are delighted that she is leading our GFS business development team. We welcome John, whose particular expertise in traditional and hedge fund sales, complements the existing skill-set in the team, which aims to maximise on new business opportunities in the investment manager sector,” says Winge.
