Northern Trust has appointed David Curtin as general counsel-international, and assistant general counsel for the corporation.

In this role, Curtin is responsible for the in-house legal team in London, which supports Northern Trust’s Europe, Middle East, Africa (EMEA) business operations, and for international legal matters.

“Northern Trust’s EMEA business is one of the fastest growing segments in the Corporation, and David will manage the London-based legal team in line with this expansion. David brings extensive cross-jurisdictional expertise and a strong track-record to Northern Trust. He will be supported by a growing team of lawyers responsible for our three main business group areas in EMEA in asset servicing, asset management and wealth management,” says Kelly Welsh, general counsel and global head of Northern Trust’s in-house legal team.

Curtin joins Northern Trust from Aspen Insurance Holdings Limited, a global reinsurance and insurance group of companies, listed on the New York Stock Exchange. There, he was group general counsel from 2003. Prior to this, he was at ICO Global Communications Limited, in London, from 1998 where he held a number of roles, latterly general Ccunsel.

He began his career in 1985 working for Bingham, Dana & Gould in Boston and subsequently Jones Day in New York and London, after having received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University and law degree from Boston College Law School.
