Northern Trust has appointed Eric Pouwels as head of asset servicing business development for the Dutch institutional market.

Pouwels will initially be based in London, re-locating in 2006 to the Netherlands in line with Northern Trust’s plans to open an office in Amsterdam. This office will represent the organization’s asset servicing and asset management businesses and will provide enhanced client service capabilities to, and a permanent sales presence in, the Dutch market.

Pouwels’ background is in information technology sales to financial institutions. He joins Northern Trust from MarketXS, a Dutch provider of real-time market data solutions, where he was responsible for sales outside of the Benelux region, having previously focused on the Dutch market.

Before that, he was at Oracle for six years, latterly as a global account director for the ING Group.

Commenting on the appointment, Anne-Lise Winge, head of the asset servicing business development team for the Europe, Middle East and Africa region, said, “Eric joins us with a wealth of sales experience and a proven track record in providing innovative solutions to his clients. The Dutch institutional market is a highly developed one and continues to be a key focus for Northern Trust. We have a number of Dutch clients, including some of the major Dutch pension funds, and Eric’s appointment, together with our plans to open an office in Amsterdam, are consistent with Northern Trust’s plans to put in place resource and infrastructure that will enable us to continue to build on our foot-hold in the Netherlands.”
