Northern Trust Global Investments (NTGI) has appointed Martin Ekers as Head of Dealing for its newly established dealing desk in London.

Ekers joins NTGI from Morley Fund Management (the largest asset management business of CGNU, which was later renamed Aviva plc) where he was head of Equity Dealing, having been approached to establish and lead a centralized dealing function from 1999. Previously, he was on the sell-side for two Citigroup predecessor companies (Salomon Brothers as Director, European Equities, and Head of International Trading for Smith Barney), as well has having run European trading for UBS Warburg.

Ekers has lectured on European Market Practice at the London Business School and sits on several industry committees and advisory boards as a senior member, including the London Stock Exchange Rules Advisory Group, Euronext Institutional Advisory Group, Deutsche Borse Institutional Advisory Group and Liquidnet Advisory Board.

“We are delighted to welcome Martin, whose expertise, proven track record and superb contacts will be invaluable as he establishes our London dealing desk and builds a team. In particular, this new capability will provide immediate additional local support to our portfolio managers and European Transition Management group,” said Barry Sagraves, chief executive officer of NTGI in London. “The creation of a London dealing desk is also in line with our strategy to put in place a global structure underpinning NTGI’s dealing activities worldwide and will allow us to trade stocks closer to the markets in which they are held.”
