Northern Trust has added two newly created positions in Canada, filled by one external hire—Alex Dameski—and one internal promotion—Matt Mayer.

Dameski joins Northern Trust Canada as senior vice president and head of relationship management, while Mayer will take on the new role of chief administrative officer for Canada.

The additions come at a time when Northern Trust views Canada as a strategic market that continues to expand, according to a spokesperson for the bank. The spokesperson adds that these new roles are part of the bank’s “growth strategy into new segments beyond the Defined Benefit space.”

As head of relationship management in Canada, Dameski will work the firm’s relationship management and client service professionals in the country to oversee strategy on all client initiatives, and Mayer “will be responsible for key strategic initiatives in connection with Northern Trust’s Canadian business plan,” says the bank.

Before joining Northern Trust, Dameski served as vice president of product development of Citi Fund Services Canada since 2009, prior to which he served there as vice president of fund accounting and administration since 2004. Earlier in his career, he held several accounting positions with AGF, CIBC Mellon and Canada Trust since 2007.

For Mayer, he previously served as a senior product manager for cross-border pooling and tax-transparent contractual fund products at Northern Trust. In this role part of his responsibilities included management of the Northern Trust CCF product, which is an Ireland-based, tax-transparent UCITS fund hosting solution for asset managers.
