Nrew York brokerage house Northeast Securities has set up a new Alternative Investments (AI) group headed by Adi Raviv.

The new Alternative Investments group will be part of Northeast’s growing institutional effort led by Boaz Rahav, Managing Director, creating a broader range of investment opportunities for institutional and high net worth clients seeking portfolio diversification. The AI group will provide strategic advisory, business-building, and third party marketing services to a diverse selection of the industry’s most promising funds.

“There is a great deal of opportunity in the marketplace for new alternative investments, and we will focus on bringing the best of these ideas and products to our clients,” said Adi Raviv. “What attracted me most to Northeast is its entrepreneurial spirit, the varied experience of its professionals, and the great attitude of the team from the most senior levels to the most junior personnel. The firm’s commitment to its clients and the ability to have a meaningful role in the development of this new line of business are also important to me.”

Raviv joins Northeast as a Managing Director after serving most recently as the Chief Operating Officer of Straus Capital Group, LLC, where he focused primarily on an investment portfolio with a significant allocation to alternative investments. He has asset management, alternative investment (including hedge, venture, and private equity funds), cash management, corporate finance, financial management, investment banking, operational, and transactional experience. He also gained alternative investment experience with BEA Associates, Stockton Partners, The HTI Group, and THCG.

Prior to working at Straus Capital, Raviv held several senior positions in operations at two public companies. He also spent over 12 years in investment banking after attaining his MBA with honors from Columbia University. He worked as an investment banker at Lehman Brothers, Oscar Gruss & Son, and Tower Hill Securities, the successor to the U.S. investment banking arm of the British merchant bank Hambros.

“Given the explosive demand for alternative investments from institutional investors, funds of funds, and high net worth individuals as part of their of overall asset allocation strategies, our entry into this sector is a logical extension of our own expansion,” says Robert A. Bonelli, President and Chief Operating Officer of Northeast Securities, Inc. “By hiring an experienced investment professional with corporate finance and investment banking expertise, Northeast is well positioned to advise emerging funds on their business-building needs and assist them in raising capital.”

Northeast Securities services both institutional and individual clients with brokerage, investment banking, cash management, municipal finance, and asset management services. Clients range from individual investors to small and mid-sized businesses, as well as municipalities, investment managers, non-profit organizations, and family foundations.
