Newedge Prime Brokerage hired five new members to senior leadership positions: Alastair Sclater, regional head of origination and structuring APAC; Miriam Zaitoun, associate director; Jasper Chua, associate director; Michael Dolan, head of EdgeConnect; and John Pitt, head of commission management services.
Based in Hong Kong, Sclater will be responsible for growing Newedges equity and synthetic prime brokerage mandates in the region. He will report to Vincent Tournant, global head of origination and structuring based in London.
Sclater joins Newedge from Mizuho Securities where he was head of the synthetic prime brokerage business in Singapore, responsible for global sales and client Servicing. Before this role, Sclater spent six years at UBS AG where he held a number of senior sales positions in the companys Asian Prime Brokerage business, including head of UBS’s Singapore Prime Brokerage unit. Sclater began his career at Merrill Lynch in London on the equity finance side before being relocated to Tokyo in late 2000 to help spearhead the development of Merrill Lynch’s APAC equity finance and prime brokerage product.
Zaitoun, based in New York, will concentrate on multi-asset, multi-instrument prime brokerage mandates in North America and will also help develop Newedge Prime Brokerage’s synthetic product offer. Zaitoun will report to Jonathan Gane, senior director and head of origination and structuring Americas in New York.
Zaitoun joins Newedge from Deutsche Bank where she spent seven years in different functions, most recently vice president and synthetic equity client service manager for global prime finance. Zaitoun was instrumental in the build out of Deutsche Banks synthetic prime brokerage platform.
Based in New York, Chua will initially focus on developing the FX prime brokerage component as part of Newedges overall multi-asset class, multi-instrument prime brokerage offering. Chua will report to Gane and Andy Waterworth, head of fixed income and currency strategies in London.
Chua joins from Bank of America Merrill Lynch where he spent six years in several different roles. Most recently, he served as vice president and head of FX Prime Brokerage structuring and integrations where he played a key role in laying the foundation for Bank of America Merrill Lynchs FX Prime Brokerage business. Jasper also spent four years at Citibank before his time at Bank of America Merrill Lynch.
Dolans focus will be on building out Newedge Prime Brokerage’s Independent Research Platform (IRP), involving partnerships with unique research providers in many sectors such as retail, technology and healthcare, and the distribution of their products via a highly-specialized sales team. Dolan will report to Gane and Brian Walls, global head of investor research in Chicago.
Dolan joins Newedge from Instinet where he was managing director, co-president and head of research and commission management services. He spent ten years building the firms independent research platform, Instinet Access. Dolan is credited with creating one of the premier platforms and distribution models in the independent research space. Before Instinet, Dolan spent time at Sanford Bernstein, Goldman Sachs, Bankers Trust and Neuberger Berman in different sales functions.
Based in New York, Pitt will focus on the build out of the EdgeConnect Commission Management Services (CMS) platform and the integration with the wider Prime Brokerage and Newedge infrastructure for the highly controlled and efficient payment of CSA related invoices. Pitt will report to Dolan.
Pitt joins Newedge from Instinet, where he was a managing director, research director and operations head for Instinet Access, Instinet’s innovative independent research platform. Pitt co-founded and co-managed the platform, and had executive responsibility for providing selection, due diligence, research management, commission payment oversight and Commission Management Services affiliate marketing.
