New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Senator Charles Schumer are expected today to publish a report detailing what everybody knows already: over-regulation means New York City is at risk of losing its position as the financial capital of the world. The report is expected to call for the now notorious Sarbanes-Oxley restrictions to be eased. It will also call for easier immigration laws for skilled professionals, for adopting the Basel II capital standards rather than a proposed tougher US version, and curbs on securities-related litigation.
