A new report from Aite Group, LLC examines the online and mobile banking product development roadmap of large US financial institutions.

The report is based on a survey of 23 of the top 80 US financial institutions conducted by Aite Group in the first quarter of 2008.

The report reveals that, in the next 24 months, large US financial institutions’ electronic banking product development roadmap will be dominated by efforts to introduce fee-based payment services, step up online marketing efforts and roll out mobile banking. Leading new initiatives will include offering expedited bill payment, making special, pre-approved offers to online customers, offering card-based bill payment via online banking and rolling out mobile banking.

“Beyond fee-based payment services and mobile banking, financial institutions show considerable interest in increasing their online marketing capabilities. Stepping up online marketing capabilities is clearly the next frontier for the online banking decision maker,” says Gwenn Bzard, research director with Aite Group and co-author of this report.
