A new study by the Center for American Progress provides an argument outlining benefits associated with defined benefit pension programs, including a reduction of risk to employees.

The report directly contradicts some current opinions of retirement plans and provides ways that both companies and individuals can benefit from them, according to the Center for American Progress.

“Pensions have a place, even in the more dynamic work place of the New Economy,” says Teresa Ghilarducci, professor of economics at the University of Notre Dame. “The current system allows for enough flexibility to design pensions so that they can address the needs of employers and employees.”
