Alois Bischofberger, long-standing chief economist of Credit Suisse Group and head of economic research, is to retire on 30 June 2008.
An internal successor has been appointed in the form of Martin Neff, currently Head of the Swiss Economy area at Credit Suisse. He will take over as head of economic research for Credit Suisse Switzerland on 1 July 2008.
“I am pleased that we have been able to appoint a successor from within our organization in the person of Martin Neff, a well-known and experienced economist who has excellent links within the Swiss business world. At the same time, I would like to thank Alois Bischofberger most warmly on behalf of Credit Suisse for his many years of excellent work as the bank’s chief economist. His achievements deserve the highest respect,” says Ulrich Krner, CEO, Credit Suisse Switzerland.
Born in 1960, Neff graduated in Economics at the University of Constance, Germany, before beginning his professional career as a consultant for S&Z GmbH in Allensbach, Germany. He then went on to join the Schweizerischer Baumeisterverband in Zurich in 1988 as head of its Trade Cycle Analysis area.
At the end of 1992, he joined the Economic Research unit of Credit Suisse, where he initially spent the next four years building up the Industry Analysis area. He was subsequently appointed head of the Swiss Economy Research subdepartment in 1996.
Since then, Neff has been responsible in this function for analysing the Swiss economy as a whole, as well as its individual sectors and regions.
